Following the great success of our ‘Come and sing’ Messiah last year, the Nelson Civic Ladies’ Choir is
planning to make this an annual event.  This year we are hosting the event on Saturday April 16th 2011, and we
thought that you might like to come along, either to sing or simply to enjoy Handel’s beautiful music.

As last year, the event is being held at Sacred Heart Church in Queen Street, Colne.  As it falls at the
beginning of Holy Week, we will be singing Parts Two and Three, music written to mark the Passion and
Resurrection.  Everyone will be made most welcome.

The choruses in the piece will be sung by the massed choir and the soloists will be Ann Myers-Brotherston (soprano),
Betty Willoughby (contralto), Jake Horler-Newsham (tenor) and John Garrett (bass).  John is the musical director
of the ladies’ choir and also will be conducting the piece. We are fortunate to have two skilled instrumentalists who
will add their talents, organist Nigel Spooner and trumpet player Roman Galaska.

Singers can either bring along their own music score or can borrow one on the day. The Prout, Watkins Shaw,
Peters and Bärenreiter editions are all musically compatible, however the movement and page numbers we are
using are from the Prout edition, published by Novello and these may vary widely in other editions.  If they need to
borrow a score we would like them to let us know so that we can arrange to have enough copies. There will be a £5
deposit for a borrowed score, returned as soon as the book is handed back.

Admission will be £5, both for singers and audience. Singers will rehearse from 2.30pm and the evening performance
will begin at 7. 30pm.

There will be a break for tea between the rehearsal and the performance.  People can bring their own sandwiches
and the ladies at Sacred Heart have very kindly offered to make hot drinks.

It would help us a great deal to have a rough idea of numbers so, if possible, we would appreciate a quick phone call
if you are thinking of joining us.

We warmly invite all singers and listeners to come along for an evening of magnificent music.  If anyone has any
questions please contact us using the contact page.
