John Garrett, Musical Director

John Garrett was born in Burnley in 1966. He studied music at university and in his final year was awarded the university singing prize. In the same year he also won a scholarship at the Mrs Sunderland music competition. He later went on to study singing with Patrick McGuigan (Royal Northern College of Music). Patrick has coached many leading opera singers including Russel Watson. More recently John became a Fellow of the London College of Music and a Licentiate of Trinity College, London.  

John is in demand as a solo singer and has performed with many leading choral societies in the country.


John Conducts several choirs in the North west and recently the Nelson Civic ladies Choir appeared on the hit BBC TV Series, 'Last Choir standing', reaching the final 28 out hundreds of choirs that applied.  John is also a composer and has had many of his pieces performed.  Many choral works are currently available to buy on line at Sibeliusmusic.com

Elizabeth Cockshott; Accompanist

Elizabeth Cockshott was a founder member of the Bradford Catholic Girls’ Choir and attended Skipton Girls’ High School. 

She was appointed Organ Scholar at Leeds Cathedral and studied with Dr Christopher McElroy whilst reading Music at the University of Huddersfield. She was also a member of the Cathedral Adult Choir where she sung for regular radio and BBC television broadcasts. Elizabeth was the Assistant Director of Music and Organist at Rossall School and is currently the Head of Music at Queen
Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Blackburn.
